The movie already includes an extra Blu-ray Disc for special features, and we doubt the extra content fills up that much space. While it's great that companies can add functionality after a product is released, it also makes it easier to ship unfinished products. In a perfect world, we'd like to see standard special features on the actual disc--so that people without Internet-enabled Blu-ray players can watch them--and keep BD-Live to content that truly need to be served over the Web.
In fact, BD-Live could actually be pretty cool if it's used to serve up timely content, such as clips of the film winning an award or perhaps recent news about the actors.
But as it stands now, it seems like more of a gimmick than a feature. What do you think? Will BD-Live eventually become a killer feature for Blu-ray?
Or will disc makers just use it as a gimmick and make it more difficult to view special features? Qualify for cash-back, gifts and special offers. Get easy access to product support.

That was a feature on Blu-ray Players that should've been discontinued, and nobody would've missed it. Most Blu-rays doesn't even have BD-Live anyway. Last edited by slimdude; at PM. Thanks given by: Aclea , borjis , sonny gaunt I seem to recall many early Blu-ray players had constant firmware upgrades due to constantly patching holes in the BD Live software.
Not that I personally used it but it was an early lesson to never trust the "cloud" for continuing to provide a service you paid for. Thanks given by: borjis , sonny gaunt An interesting capability I don't believe I ever saw implemented was the ability to download subtitles not on the physical discs and to be able to play them while watching said movie.
I think a lot more people would have found this useful had they made it available.
