However, when you click the link you are met with a page that says, Room Registration Disabled". I called and was told they were aware of the issue and it would be fixed later today. I checked throughout the day and no progress. I called back and never got an answer as to how long it has not been working, but was told they could put "notes" on my reservation. I have very little faith the notes will be read or honored per other reviews I have read. I checked again today and sure enough, still broken.
I have a funny feeling this is going to be a theme. So far the people I have spoken to are extremely nice and I suspect most of the people that work there are wonderful people. Room service, poolside and beach service etc. There was NONE!!! No snacks, Nacho's hot dogs, burgers etc.. I tried and had security guards called!! Available for breakfast is a bagel, fruit and coffee. My wife is in a wheelchair, she can't walk long distance but can walk somewhat. We sought no preferential treatment but none was offered anyway. Another reason we choose this resort was there were wood walkways and areas on the beach for wheelchair access. The handicapped signs were removed from these areas so we had to push the chair through the sand as the area was always occupied!
Again, No beach service, drink or food!! Go to small service bar, get in line for a drink. On day 3 however, we took a stroll over to Bahia Principe Punta Cana next door. To see if there was a better place to sit on the beach. In fact, we were approached by 3 different servers in just 10 minutes!!! This is near the Ambar resort and we tried to take the tram there. The tram pick up location was right outside our bldg. They should have a small stool available for this.
Instead, a cart was called and we got to dinner but, after dinner we were told that there was no way back. Sooo, now what! We left the wheelchair back at the room. Only option was to somehow get on the tram, thankfully, several men helped get my wife on and off. This was very embarrassing for us and resort customers should not have had to be put in this position! Did I mention it was our 51st anniversary!

Returned from Bahia Esmeralda first week of October, This was our first trip during the Covid pandemic. I understand processes and services available at any resort right now may not be as they were before. Typically, that should be reflected in the price you pay.
One reason I picked the Bahia was they offered Covid quarantine should you test positive before flying home. Overall, I was very happy with this vacation. This section of the Bahia has not been updated. To me that is ok. However, besides the hotel being outdated neither the food, drinks, entertainment or service made it above other 4 star resorts in the area.
At this time of year, rainy season, we were lucky with weather. It rained one morning, at night and some cloud. Otherwise, nice and hot. Would I return? Yes, if the price was right. Great views of the ocean. Anyone can eat here for lunch. Different parts of this building are used for a la carts in the evening and you are able to eat outside. Being at Esmeralda you can use facilities at the other resorts except main buffets. This is nice benefit. Big room, but definitely dated, with good old fashion washroom with a door and double vanities.
Separate shower from the bathtub. The glass window between bathroom and beds is strange but typical in a lot of resorts but ours had a curtain over it. Good variety of food but nothing gourmet. A la cartes were easy to book using a console in the lobby.
The Indian and Asian were our favorites. Enjoyed the coffee shop and apple strudel. If you need a straw, ask for one, they have paper ones. Big beach area across the whole of the Bahias. The best swimming for the least seaweed when it was an issue was in front of the Ambar. Covid PCR testing was readily available on-site. PCR test done at 10 in morning and result was in my email by 8 p.
Not so positive: Only average service. These rooms are older. Linen is average. Nothing special in fridge. Drinks were served way to often in plastic. I agree plastic at the beach but not in some of the restaurants.
Coffee served in buffets is terrible and hard to get it hot. Gala night, which is on Tuesdays, was disappointing. I was hoping for some good seafood, no lobster and the shrimp you had to peel. I should have booked another a la carte instead of this dinner.
